Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo

(I had to pause the podcast to google that this morning because I was almost as baffled as they were. As always, their confusion is hilarious.)

I learned about the Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo thing in logic class, because my logic class in college was great.

My favorite part of this entire episode, though, had to be the short description of what a mech suit was and Alex Blumberg's reaction to it.

I especially love this show when it is about how weird the Internet is. But, then, I was one of the people making antifa supersoldier jokes.

Man, fuck that buffalo shit. I thought I had it because I thought it was only 7 buffalos and I thought the scientific name for buffalo was buffalo buffalo (it's bison bison) but now I find it's more and the scientific name doesn't enter into it at all, and they're adding all sorts of whos and thats...

It's like saying ghoti is pronounced fish, fuck that noise.

Yellowbinder - all of the that's and who's can be omitted thanks to the magic of the English language's relationship to relative pronouns!

I wish I could play this episode for Tim Berners-Lee and just watch him listen to it

OMG, I can't believe that they stumbled on the perfect way to make the buffalo thing explicable by replacing "buffalo (cows)" (from) "Buffalo (city)" with "New York Bison" in the sentence in the first few seconds of the attempted explanation but then ignored it and ploughed on regardless with trying to futilely explain it using just the word(s) "buffalo".

I was about ready to scream at my earphones. It's so obvious once you get it but so complicated to get your head around in the first place.

On review, the relevant Wikipedia article currently answers the stupid and obvious question "why is it confusing to read" with your mom is gay.

Which, well.

Yeah, I've always been a buffalo truther--the sentence is incomprehensible without commas, "which"s, or "that"s. So it may follow the abstract rules of formal grammar, but that only shows that grammar doesn't map on to actual language precisely.

This episode was a corker. I loved it.

I'm simultaneously astonished that there are Americans who haven't been forced to learn the Buffalo pun and thoroughly convinced it's the least interesting statement that has ever been said about human language and nobody should be forced to waste time thinking about it. These are not easily reconcilable opinions, except in so far as I'm a jerk who dislikes everything, including both my 9th grade English teacher and everyone who didn't pay attention to my 9th grade English teacher.

Still, a fun show that I thoroughly enjoyed. Even if everything about the second tweet except buffalo and vore remain basically incomprehensible. This must be what getting old feels like.

I can't explain why I'm not annoyed by the three L lama thing, except that I wasn't forced to listen to classmates talk about it in high school.

I thought "milkshake duck" was when you find out an internet fan favourite is actually racist/sexist/homophobic/etc and not when the internet turns on you.

But I learned that I pronounced antifa wrong, too.
