I am really disappointed - I own the Outlander Cookbook (can recommend the maple pudding, which I made for thanksgiving) but there’s no recipe for the Murphy/Willoughby turtle soup 🙁

MOCK turtle (I guess that the author didn't want to deal with endangered species) is on page 61.

I stand corrected! I blame baby brain.

Yay! That was a good episode! Claire and Marsali's heart-to-heart before the wedding was really sweet. And turtle soup!

I couldn't help but think that Claire jumping off the boat really didn't make sense- it was pure luck that Jamie landed on that island, otherwise, it's bananas to have thought that jumping off to a random island would possibly get her to a position to be able to help him faster- the Porpise and Artemis were both heading to Jamaica, and she was going to get there faster anyway. But I guess that's the book plot, and the entire plot hinges on that questionable decision and then luck intervening, so I'm just being nit-picky.

Book Marsali and Claire bond before C is shanghaied onto the British ship, which I think is better.

And I was wrong about the dresses....I would have liked to have seen Ermengilda's purple one be the one Marsali wore.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the season. The silence of the first half of the episode where Claire is just trying to survive was so very immersive, really nicely done. And I absolutely loved the meta-commentary on the beach: "Gee, Jamie's wifey sure does show up in the most random places at the perfect time, amirite?"

Also, I have surprisingly little to complain about with the boats. Other than the boat sailing at night at the end of this episode was going way too fast for the wind shown, they've done a damn good job of accurately portraying boat stuff.

I know it was maybe obvious and hamfisted, but we sure did get misty-eyed in our house when Jamie gave Fergus his name.

Yeah, I liked the name portion as well - but wasn't there more in the books? Like people interfering with Claire seeing Jamie right away? I feel like it was more dramatic and this seemed pretty underwhelming, but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

every preview without jamie in red heels and lavender satin breeches and face powder is a preview wasted, however. if we are denied that ridiculous scene i shall riot.

yes. Like, we all want moar glorious Jamie scenes. You know what we want, show. Give us more of that, less slow-motion shots of turtles.

I don’t even understand how a person’s chest can be that muscular. Will have to gather more information to determine.

I think that once you charter the sort of people who are capable of providing a couple of working tall ships for your film set - you find yourself surrounded by the sort of specialists who won’t put up with boat-related plot nonsense. The same people are probably laisez faire about reptiles however.
