Sleepy Hollow: Root of All Evil
October 7, 2014 9:36 AM - Season 2, Episode 3 - Subscribe

The Horseman of War stirs up more trouble, a bank robbery is the start of a wave of violence in town, and everybody gets to think a little bit about their family relationships.

I would like to point out that the funniest thing I've heard in a while is Ichabod Crane mentioning that he watched the finale of Glee.

Another week, and still no magical display from Katrina.

The new sheriff has an itchy trigger finger doesn't she?

I am not sold on this new "Holly" character.

I feel like "Holly" is gonna be more or less exactly what Ichabod described him as -- a mercenary.

As for Katrina, she's playing a game that is making her at least a bit more interesting than she has been for the entirety of the last season.

I on the other hand found myself in the unusual (for me anyways) position of shipping Ichabod and Hawley (which is how IMDB has his name), like, right away.

And yeah, she may not be magic-ing, but Katrina is at least trying to play the two horsemen against each other, which has the potential to make both her and Headless a little more interesting. If nothing else there's at least the chance of having some of John Noble's awesomeness rub off on them.

Holly / Hawley - just saw the correct spelling on TLO. I was just going on how it sounded.

Regarding Katrina's espionage plan. That is at least something a perhaps more dynamic actress could sink her teeth into, but I am skeptical of Katia Winter being that actress at the moment. Additionally I would love it if Henry saw what she was trying to do and it backfired spectacularly on her. It would be interesting if Abbie's concerns bore out that her love of her son is a blind spot and dangerous to their overall mission.

Every time I watch this show I end up depressed when it's over because I have to wait a whole week to see it again. It's been a while since I've been excited for a show every week. Even the bad episodes are fun.

I wonder if Abbie's thoughts about Katrina's love for her child will actually come up as a sticking point between Katrina and Ichabod. Ichabod died before knowing he had a child, correct? And has only met said child as an older man who very quickly turned out to be an enemy. There can't be much, if any, paternal feelings in Ichabod for Henry. Katrina had time with presumably got a little bit of bonding in, even if it may be hard for her to see her child in the man standing in front of her.

Also, as far as I can tell Reyes is there to push the two sisters apart. She's drawing Abbie closer to the law and order side and pushing Jenny over to the rebellious and unstable side, and I think she's doing it deliberately to create friction between the two.

Yeah, now that they've set up that Reyes had their mother institutionalized, I'll be really shocked if Reyes doesn't turn out to be supernaturally evil in some way.

Was anyone else disappointed that Henry didn't give the coin to Katrina?

Katrina is possibly the least sneaky eavesdropper ever.

Why were the demons so very much against the US becoming an independent country? What was their plan that they turned Judas evil, then waited around for Benedict Arnold, and waited again for Abbie? This puzzles me.

Also I love everything about this show.

UGH it's so embarrassing, she's like the infomercial fail lady of eavesdropping.

I was braced for Abbie to say she doesn't trust Katrina for some vague reason that related to romantic feelings for Ichabod, and was so pleased that she had considered Katrina and her son, something logical and likely. It's part of the charm of this show - supernatural silliness but the characters act like intelligent people.

Same here. I hope there are some gifs & fic-recs turning up eventually soon. (Also, it felt like Hawley was crossing over from another series - like somewhere there's a proto-National Treasure/Romancing the Stone type show that he lives in when he's away from Sleepy Hollow.)

Even when I totally see through this show, it delights me. I can pick apart its cliches, point by point, and yet it continues to be fun even when it's too on the nose. Katrina's actress can't act, whatever. Ichabod vs the modern world as a guy whose moral orientation actually matches 2014 liberalism, whatever. Ridiculous historical excess that makes National Treasure look sensible, whatever. I'm loving it.

The one downside of this episode for me was that I feel like they'll need to fire the Tyrian shekels gun later now that it's up on the mantel, and that's a lot of trouble to dump on the team. Maybe there can be a miniseries of Hawley cleaning that up!

Unrelated to the fun of the show, but super fun for me: I know a guy who looks a lot like Hawley and am enjoying teasing him on FB about his sideline in magic and arms dealing.

Demons are well-known Tories.

As soon as he said he was going to collect them all I yelled, "Spin off!"
