RECAPS:
Vulture: Are You A Believer?
Den of Geek: The Killers
Indie Wire: The Ending to Season 1 is Especially Satisfying, and Not Only Because It Answers So Many Questions
Bleeding Cool: The Killers

We are getting the extended version of the intro credits - all the same themes as before, rendered in electric blue and blood red. Same themes as before: snakes, shedding skin, ouroboros, weird holey stack. This Music is EXTREMELY my jam. Thanks, Jeff Russo.
Well, this is torture.
Getting a good look at Mr. Leung's weapon, it is shaped like a vajra, a thunderbolt, the weapon of the gods, which "often ... represent[s] firmness of spirit and spiritual power."
Oh, sibling resentments run deep. Live to be centuries old, be worshipped as an immortal god, and you're still fighting that Little Sister role.
Just shoot him Poe!
Oh no. Oh Lizzie!
.... hey, it's Future Starts Slow by The Kills - the soundtrack for some good old ultraviolence.
...
When you're going to shoot, shoot; don't talk.
Oh, the Mom card again!
I'm really surprised that Tak gets the drop on ALL of these guys with the shocksticks next to his head.
The family that blows shit up together stays together!
Just once I'd like to see a dao or a parang or a shamshir or a jian or maybe a seax instead of a katana (though appropriate for Tak and Rei)
Oh shit - Quell wouldn't want you to!

Ortega and Ryker's place is full of hexagons/honeycombs.
And now the big reveal.
... and the bigger reveal! Wow.

Renée Elise Goldsberry sings Ain't No Grave

wow, that indie wire recap is so wrong it's not even funny. at least the comments are calling him out on it.

I wouldn't mind a season 2, but I hope he gets a non-white sleeve, just for some diversity in leading men.

I was wondering who sang that. It was so beautiful and haunting.

Maybe I missed a visual cue, but it seemed to me that they didn't make it 100% clear that Reileen is absolutely, definitively, no-sequels dead. I mean, Kovacs' whole plan was to nuke her backups with the virus, then capture her—sleeve dead or alive—and send her for deprogramming/reeducation in VR for a few subjective lifetimes: voilà! he gets Good Sis back. And even given how things worked out, he still had the opportunity to do that, if he'd wanted to, just by angling the gun up ever so slightly. Blow her (sleeve's) brains out, but not her stack, and trust that nobody is going to be so stupid as to re-sleeve her when they pull everyone's bits and pieces out of the wreckage, until his dopplegänger can get there from Pleasure Island.

It seems like they left enough wiggle room that, if they wanted to bring her back in a subsequent season, they could do it, without having to do a whole Hans Gruber / Simon Gruber thing (also known as "oops, we killed off the villain too soon"). Because I kinda assume if they do a second season that they'd want to write Dichen Lachman in there somehow.

It was during this episode that I started thinking of Leung’s weapon as the “cherry pitter.”

Thematically, this episode reminded of Westworld—except the humans take the place of robots as disposable sex toys.
