Finally watched this episode this morning -- I think I'd been letting these episodes stack up on my dvr because I was a little freaked out by the tooth-filing scene in episode 2, so it was kind of a relief that they're just ignoring it altogether by having Fuches eating steak this week.

Ha - I was wondering if that was showing just what kind of badass Fuches really was. Maybe barracks in Connecticut really are hell.

And I hope more people will want to talk about this show because I do! Sally is absolutely breaking my heart. She almost actually delivered a good spin on that terrible scene in the audition, but couldn't hold it together. I like how it ping-pongs between her being just terrible (omg bending down like that to talk to her 14-year-old son in that class exercise) and being quite able to channel her emotions into truth.

I loved how the Stovka storyline went. When the mob announced the arrival of their family's most talented killer, I was not expecting a sad old man who kills himself before he kills anyone else. Very funny, but also kind of sad since this is being telegraphed as Barry's future! It was also very funny and kind of sad that Fuches is too busy seizing on an opportunity to relate the depressive virtuoso hitman to Barry at all. The behind-the-show scenes mentioned that Fuches was fleshed out after the pilot. He was intended to be a single-note user, but then they warmed to the idea that Fuches really does care for Barry. It will be interesting to see if Fuches ever manifests that care into not urging Barry to kill for money...

I was not expecting a sad old man

He wasn't old, he was 45.
