This just keeps being excellent. I totally didn't get the hope vs fear vision thing until they explained it.

oh, that moment with Tyrone seeing the cloak regalia. Such a moment of rightness, and such an excellent example of great translation/transformation of the source material. I also didn't catch the hope vs. fear thing, but I so appreciate how slow and quiet the show is taking things so far. I'm really enjoying getting to know these characters.

Yeah, and that scene didn't exactly defy my expectations, but it also wasn't predictable, mostly.

I might be biased because I'm predisposed to like Tandy for about twelve different reasons, but I think her character is complicated and compelling. One of the things that impressed me in the scene in the church was that not only is Tandy written as both smart and street-smart, but Olivia Holt is quite convincing in this. I believe that she tends to be a step ahead of everyone else, quick to insights and quick to act on them. Not just that the show tells us she's like that. This is leavened with flashes of her youthful vulnerability that also seem real. I guess my sense is that both this character and the actor they chose to play this character could have gone badly awry, dooming the whole show from the get-go.

Overall, the acting has been quite good on the show. The only exception has been the detective -- I would have recast her. The writers gave the actor almost nothing to work with, but, that being the case, she didn't seem to know what to do about it.

The whole straight-razor thing seemed way over-the-top to me -- maybe there's a whole self-conscious melodrama thing in the krewes (or, some googling suggests Mardi Gras Indians is more likely) subculture that I'm unaware of, as I am of almost everything about the city and its culture.

Also, I have no idea how Otis thought his trip down memory lane with Tyrone would dissuade him from juvenile delinquency -- if he was going that direction, that whole episode would have sealed the deal.

Olivia Holt just maybe be so good at acting and conveying her emotions that I'm having a little trouble believing her in a grifter role.

I think the snark I have about C&D is that they're managing to convey a runaway vibe better than.. y'know. Runaways. But otherwise it's perfectly serviceable, they're doing a decent job of keeping it sort of floaty and dreamy with the flashbacks and visions without it turning into a confusing mess of a shitshow and the story is interesting enough that I'm curious to see where it takes them over the course of the season. Both of the leads are charismatic enough that even the occasional bit of teenaged angst doesn't make me tune out.

And Evita and Tyrone's blossoming relationship is totes adorable and I'm cheering her on pretty much every time, in spite of Tyrone's thickheadedness.

I also didn't catch the hope/fear thing about their mind powers. That's super interesting instead of just typical telepathic powers. I'm also not clear on what Otis was trying to accomplish by bringing Tyrone to the Redhawks. (I had never heard of Mardi Gras Indians before, so had to look that up)

This show is really hooking me so far. I wish I could just binge the whole thing!

Loving this show, especially how it is taking advantage of the New Orleans setting and building a much more interesting world and characters to inhabit it than what I remember from the comics.
