On the one hand this is not that good of a movie.

On the other, it manages a spot-fucking-on parody of House Hunters International and then kills everyone involved horribly and I was 135% down with that.

Also the peculiar little blue cottage she moves into in Romania? That's very, very authentic. Those are all over the place in rural Transylvania.

I enjoyed the Home and Garden network parody/imitation with creepy overtones (does anyone *like* those shows or are their fanbases one hundred percent hatewatching?), but then it made some very boring decisions on the monster. The witch ended up standard and full of misogynistic tropes, and the special effects were... well, they should have saved their money and stuck with the creepy atmospheric stuff.

I mostly agree.

I really and truly wish that the homeowner hadn't turned out to be the witch, because the "Woe be unto you, culture tourists!" storyline would have been more resonant than go-around 35,987,152 on the "Backward Gypsy People Are Scary" train.
