I really liked this. Patricia Arquette was so good I didn't even recognize her.

The way Arquette doesn't so much speak as sing out scattered phrases from a wobbly, pathetic lament is so... familiar somehow. I feel like growing up in the Midsouth, I came across people with that particular mannerism over and over.

This was well done and it treated the story with kindness and justice while not ignoring the more distasteful elements of the story (but it didn't play them up). I feel like the dramatic liberties taken were well-done and the performances were surprising. I think Joey King took a character who could've been annoying and one-note and brought a good depth and humanity to Gypsy.

I think it was bit oddly paced, though, but I appreciate that it didn't rush the aftermath of the crime. It was a supremely uncomfortable watch in parts but I'm glad I watched it.

This was way better than I was expecting it to be, and somehow managed to not feel exploitative. I already knew the story and have seen the HBO documentary, but found myself waiting impatiently every week for the new episode to drop.

I just realized I am "The Past Their Prime Mothers on This Show Are All Played by Hot Chicks from My Youth" years old. Arquette, Sevigny, Lewis.

(They're all great actresses who don't need my approval and are all still lovely anyway. It's just weird hitting the point where my generation is playing the parents.)

Actually, Juliette Lewis is killing me here.

"That package was the knife. They mailed it from her house to your house."
"Are you serious?"
