The Righteous Gemstones: Is This the Man Who Made the Earth Tremble

After discovering Amber, Pontius and Abraham reminiscing about an estranged family member, Jesse tasks his friends with acquiring surveillance footage that could explain the strange events of the night before.
We figured out who Gideon was pretty much right away but that first five minutes was incredible. I have no idea where they are going with this (and what the hell was with Eli and that snake?) but it is quite entertaining.

I wish the episode had been longer. I feel like that's going to be a ongoing critique from me: I think the show operates better as an hour-long. It felt a little rushed and we got very little time with the main cast, whom I love. Was entertaining as hell though.
Did like to see Skyler Gisondo in the mix. He was great in the Santa Clarita Diet and Booksmart; glad to see him still getting good work. We'll always call him Little Shawn, though.

I spent pretty much this whole episode recalibrating my expectations for this show -- I didn't think it would be quite so... Coen brothers? That might be why I didn't see the Gideon twist coming, despite (in retrospect) it being obvious that he's a guy who's trained to look like he's fighting.
