In the leadup to the next season, the friends play two games that were made for the Emotional Mecha Game Jam. First, as several confused children playing games with a dying mech pilot from a battle long past, and then as a number of pilots losing a war against the season's big villains. This episode features Austin, Jack, Art, and Keith

The second half isn't great but apparently it was way too late for thinking, I've been there, but the bit with the kids was hilarious. Jack playing a super serious, compelling, tragic character monologuing about how everything she ever knew has succumbed to the inexorable weight of time while the other three are all drawing butts and pretending to be a kid pretending to be an adult is the funniest bit they've ever done. Asking the pants chaplain for comfort was positively disorienting levels of heartbreaking and hilarious all at the same time.

Ech0 was really great. Such a good blend of silly and melancholy. Stay away from those quarries.

I finally got around to finishing the second half of the episode and I liked it alright. I liked the pacing and character interactions of Dusk to Midnight a lot more than what they came up with for Dialect. It's kinda a shame they never got to the point where any of the pilots go out.

The game where they were playing kids was amazing. The way that their out-of-character cracking up when one of them was pretending to be a grown-up also worked as in-character kids-trying-not-to-laugh was great.
