Breaking Bad: Thirty-Eight Snub   Rewatch
December 1, 2014 7:25 PM - Season 4, Episode 2 - Subscribe

Walt attempts to form a new alliance as he plans his next move. Skyler pushes Walt towards a business opportunity, in hopes of protecting the family.

Guest star: Jim Beaver (Deadwood etc.) as Walt's gun seller; he'll reprise this role later in S5.

James Poniewozik, TIME:
Walt stares at himself in the mirror—as if to persuade himself as much as the dealer—and says, “It’s for defense. Defense. [pause] I’ll take it.” It’s a lie; it’s the truth. It’s the truth to Walter, anyway.
Roomba-cam! [poor quality, sorry]

The video linked from that post is dead; here's the original Breaking Bad // POV on Vimeo.

Whose voice is it at the end telling Walter "go home"? Alan Sepinwall investigates.

Of all the stupid things Walt does, coming to the dual conclusion that (a) he needs to kill Gus and (b) he's going to easily find a way to kill Gus... takes the cake.

Plus this once again sets the stage for Skyler to correctly guess that he's in serious danger and for Walt to dickishly fulminate about how wrong she is, and oh it's just just maddening.

Watching Mike outsmart Walter over and over again, culminating with punching him in the face is super satisfying.

Walt has always used chemistry in the past. Mercury fulminate or ricin. So now he wants to go up against Mike and Gus with a snub nosed .38? It's an effective defensive weapon, but only if you are good, and close, and lucky. And it's something you could buy with no paperwork at any gun show, untraceable if you buy it in a private sale, so why all the cloak and dagger? All I can think is that it is a sign that he is falling apart.
