In 1976, Karen and Barry Mason had fallen on hard times and were looking for a way to support their young family when they answered an ad in the Los Angeles Times.

Now streaming on Netflix.

This was a fantastic movie. I highly recommend it.

There needs to be a complete history of the intersections of the rise of the gay rights movement, bookstores, and pornography. Stores like Circus of Books, Giovanni's Room, Four Star Fiction and Video, Outwords, Gays the Word. These disappearing foundations of first Act Up, then the gay rights movement, then the gay marriage campaign literally made queer life what it is today. Most of it fueled by the sale of porn. I'm so glad this history has been captured. I only wish she had brought more than two boxes to the ONE archive.
