Christ, this episode was a downer. That poor being. I hope the gesture of compassion was understood for what it was.

I'm curious as to what happened after the episode, as it's not entirely clear to me how much time passed between it and the next, assuming, possibly incorrectly, that they're sequential, but at the same time I'm probably better off not knowing.

Stålenhag's art always has an air of lived-in obsolescence in progress, of a wondrous tomorrow turned rusted today (a "used future," to quote The Sword), but looking at it I never feel bummed out the way I do watching this show. The tabletop RPG apparently focuses on the experience of being a kid, inquisitive and adventurous and saddled with adolescent trials and bullshit, and while the show captures some of that, it still feels like everything in this version of the world is simply building to disappointment. I suppose that's not too far off from out world, but damn.

Still totally gonna watch the next season, if there is one.

I liked how George’s journey from bully-enabler to Cybernetic Other allowed him to become a proper human being and friend to robot monsters. I found it heartwarming! And it’s kinda ironic, considering his son is also now a robot.

This episode was directed by Ti West, who I hope makes another horror film one day.
