Joe Wilkinson's potato throw... one of the funniest AND saddest things I have ever seen.

This season gave me an entirely new appreciation of Katherine Ryan - previously I guess I'd probably only seen her on Eight out of Ten Cats Does Countdown where her persona didn't really click, but over the course of 5 episodes she really impressed me with her ability to see a problem, figure out a solution, and implement it with a laser focus.

And she is funny as hell.

I had seen Katherine Ryan from my partner watching her show The Duchess, which I enjoyed in small doses, but whole episodes of people being terrible, even hilariously, often don't do it for me. I was worried I'd feel the same here.

I did not. She was so good. So smart. And yeah, hi. lar. ious.

I'm only one episode in to this season but I totally concur. She's smart on the show, gracious to the other panelists and I'd really only seen her on Big Fat Quiz where Jimmy Carr seemed to take some pleasure in really kind of ragging on her in ways that felt kind of severe so I had always wondered "Gee is she kinda terrible?" (I'm aware Carr is kinda terrible) So it's a delight to find that not only she not terrible, she's a lot of fun.

I've been doing a rewatch along with the podcast, so I'm only on the first ep of this season, but I have to say that this season isn't one I'd consider to be a favorite, yet it somehow has so many great moments -- and weirdly, most of them revolve around Joe (who is the first guest of this season on the podcast -- if anyone isn't also listening to the podcast, I recommend it!).

I'd only known Joe from 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (aka Catsdown) and did not care for his schtick on it, but I ended up really loving him on Taskmaster. Starting, of course, with that epic potato throw and ensuing drama, but also the Calippos (so impressive, and I'm not even a mayor!), and the look on his face when he realizes that there's strength in arches.

It's surprising that this season is so short (only five episodes!) when I've grown used to the 10 episodes seasons, yet it's the catalyst for overanalyzing the wording on the cards to figure out sneaky ways around them -- as well putting little clues and things where most (or none) of the contestants will actually read it but it will give them the key to winning the task.

For the speaking Swedish task I'm a bit surprised that none of the contestants tried to see if they knew some common third language like French or Pig Latin. Also that no one used Google Translate on their phone, but maybe it didn't have Swedish back when this was recorded? But hindsight is 20-20 for a lot of these.

And it took until the series finale for me to work out that they always put Richard Osman and Jon Richardson on the same team and called it "father and son" not because Richard is very tall and Jon very short but because their names are Richard and Richardson.

Also, "there's strength in arches!"
