Just watched the pilot and it was terrific... a bit like a more lived-in, less cheeky Good Girls.

I watched this when it was on ITV and really enjoyed it. Sheridan Smith is terrific and although it stretches credibility, her strong performance somehow keeps it all on track.

It's such a tense show. Folks savoring the new generation of female antiheroes on TV should take note, because Sam is both magnetic/sympathetic and kind of terrible and challenging to root for. The scenes where she talks Jess into stuff are painful because you can see why someone who loves her would be hypnotized by her energy but she's bad news.

The main thing though is that, noisy plot aside, this is a very serious look at someone with a gambling addiction. Sam cannot stop. She'll risk her life on a guess to criminals, spend her daughter's birthday money on scratchers. I cannot even imagine what it will take for her to hit bottom.
