Concrete Cowboy (2020)

Sent to live with his estranged father for the summer, a rebellious teen finds kinship in a tight-knit Philadelphia community of Black cowboys.

I don't know what I was expecting but this turned out to be such a memorable, intimate, beautifully acted movie. Idris Elba is not the lead and actually doesn't even have that many lines, although he does make an impact. The lead goes to Caleb McLaughlin as the troubled teenager, and he is extraordinary. You really just can't take your eyes off of him whenever he's on screen. I've watched all 3 seasons of Stranger Things and had no idea he was Lucas until I looked Concrete Cowboy up on IMDb because I liked it so much. All of the scenes where they sit around a campfire on beach chairs in empty lots in the middle of Philadelphia were so great. Having grown up in around Philly, this movie really took me back, although I have never seen one of the concrete cowboys/cowgirls.

This was an excellent movie. Lots of great character and story development, and definitely got me fascinated about the Fletcher Street riders.
