Oh Francis, stop whining! Ross has done plenty of scything and mining and other manual labour without feeling sorry for himself at all. I don't know how anyone could be such a milksop that he can't handle anything not going his way.
Ross gambled away his father's watch, Demelza's necklace, and probably some money to find out that George's cousin was cheating. You'd think he could have exposed the guy at less expense.
Jim Carter's story is heartbreaking. He lasted almost the whole of those two horrible years in prison only to die just before his release. Poor Jinny.
