The Great British Sewing Bee: It's Reduce Reuse Recycle Week.
May 21, 2021 6:34 AM - Season 7, Episode 6 - Subscribe

The sewers make waistcoats out of old clothes, turn army surplus into a women's outfit and make a dress out of jeans. Spoilers inside

This was a triumphant week for Raph. His waistcoat was impeccable, and the denim dress was dreamy and flattering, with a clear point of view. His transformation challenge was also very successful. A worthy winner this week, for sure.

Adeena's time should have been up last week (Adam! sob!), but this week's challenges really exposed her technical shortcomings and it was the right choice for the judges to send her home. Damian's delight at still being in the competition is almost palpable, and I'm rooting him to go as far as possible, although I suspect his days may be numbered as the pattern challenges become more and more difficult.

Joe was hilarious this week, and I love how supportive he is to everyone. He's a gem. I also thought the opening with Patrick coming in after Esme was so, so funny. If you've not seen it, I won't spoil it for you...

Another great episode. I have to admit I was really mad at Adeena the whole time (which seems really unfair since I'm sure she's very nice) but I really wish Adam was still there. Sigh. Raph had an absolutely fantastic weekend and it seems like he and Serena and Farie are the big competitors still standing. I do love Damien and his attitude though. He looks like he's having the greatest time and he appears to actually be reading the patterns all the way through lately. I would love for him to make it all the way to the end.

Loved this episode! Andrew in his tank made of socks!! Let's see whether Raph manages not to cry on TV for the rest of the season!

"Don't make me say it, sir!"

(Joe's facial expressions are amazing.)

I really liked the last patchwork challenge. I think it's such a beautiful way to use fabric in general. The only thing I didn't like about Raph's dress was the side seams -- patchwork kind of gives you the chance to not have obvious seams, though I guess that would have been much more work and taken too long. It was a little funny how Patrick went on about never having seen anything like it; someone elsewhere pointed to this patchwork denim dress, and it reminded me of a lot of art quilts; you'd think the judges would know by now that there are few new things under the sun. (That's no knock on the dress, which was excellent.)

So many nice moments this episode. Esme grabbing the cape, Joe playing hide and seek with Farie, who is so clearly a mom there...

This show is such a delight, and Recycle Week is always my favorite week of the season when it pops up. I feel bad for All That Glitters being aired in tandem with it because the excellence of GBSB made All That Glitters look even worse.

Joe regularly makes me laugh out loud. I am used to hosts drawing out a few sensible chuckles but he is just so ridiculous and fun. And Esme chiding Damien for his workspace this week was a riot. And the cape!

(my Wednesday evenings now consist of me refreshing certain websites waiting for the episode to pop up so I can watch it)

In a post-exit interview Cathryn was asked about what it was like to work with Joe and she said "Joe is a lovely lad, kind and intelligent", and I thought that was wonderful and hilarious.

I like the way Joe Lycett sometimes tries a joke with the sewers and they clearly aren't focussing on him at all or have no time to look up to see what he is doing. Something about the contrast of their concentration and him pinging randomly around the edges.

Also, briefly I thought I need to make a jumper out of socks, but the seams would be a bit lumpy wouldn't they? Unless one crocheted them together.

Yes, Andrew’s didn’t look flat and cohesive.
