Ray is one of the most complicated characters on tv right now and the show actually gives that space to breathe. He's neither a hero you can root for nor a villain you can entirely write off. He thinks of himself as moral, a single dad who just does what needs doing and only hurts bad people. But even when he's not killing other people, his toxicity is killing him. The uniquely dry Australian wit doesn't so much soften it as help sneak the poison in.

I really wish more people had seen this because it's gold.

If Ted Lasso is a show about a positive man rising above the effects of toxic masculinity and trying to help him do the same, Mr. in Between is a show about a pessimistic man drowning in it, despite having intentions to be a good man.

Gary constantly doing embarrassing shit wears a little thin, though I recognize why it serves as a counterpoint.

Best show I've seen in ages. Absolutely criminal that more people haven't noticed it (though I'm delighted that Rick Salutin, of all people, quite righteously has)

I felt this was a well-executed season, but also the worst season. However I don't know where else there was for it to go or what for it to do.

The quick turnaround setup/payoffs of like the gym and Zoe were perhaps just too easily and suddenly meaningful for Ray.

I choked laughing a bit when Ray was telling Britt about how there's bad people in the world HER FRIEND GOT ABDUCTED, SHOW.

Yeah he was a source of luridness for luridness's sake a bit. Californication is my reference point for a kind of horny sleazy voyeurism. Like, in this season where the high school student goes to the dealer's house and starts to give him a blowjob. Like not even bothering with justification.
