This phenomenon was first mentioned by Mariko Aoki to a Japanese magazine in 1985, and has recently made its way to TikTok. The idea that Japanese book publishers are in bed with Big Toiletpaper is delightfully absurd. It's good to be reminded that silly, inconsequential conspiracy theories exist.
