Legends of Tomorrow: Paranoid Android
January 15, 2022 7:31 PM - Season 7, Episode 8 - Subscribe

Meet the alt-Legends we saw at the end of the last episode, who are convinced that they're chasing android versions of themselves. "We are the REAL Legends of Tomorrow."

AV Club review.

* New credits!
* "Nate" has the largest fake arms ever!
* "Sara" has a strange side braid, "Astra's" totally redheaded, "Spooner"...has a mullet. "Gary's" in full tentacle alien form. "Zari" and "Astra" are dead...OR NOT.
* "Nate" and "Sara" wonder why these rogues would try to save "history's greatest nobodies."

Meet "Nate" and "Sara."
"There's a lot of red on that time thingie. And one thing I do know: red ain't good."
"It's that kind of insight that makes you my right hand man."
"I thought it was because I was strong as steel. Like always hard."
"I was joking."
"Ah, got me. Good."
"But seriously, you ever wonder why Bishop built a bunch of time-traveling rogues who look like us?"
"'Cause he's a dick and he hates history."

Meet "Zari" and "Astra," resurrected, as they listen to "Behrad" and "Spooner" have a vengeance-off over their "deaths."
"They know we're still alive, right?"
"I think it's best to let them get it out of their systems."

"Who are you people?'
"Well, since you're going to be dead soon, I might as well tell you: we're time traveling superheroes."
"...oh. Okay." -Sara and General Kalashnik

"What kind of superheroes murder people and give them cancer?" -the General

"Guys, if we don't stop this, all these people...are gonna LIVE." -"Nate."

"You want us to change history with a fake TV show? This is way too meta!" -"Gary."

"Time is like cement." -Gideon

I'm amused that the special effects budget must have gone more to Gary-the-tentacled this week than Nate, who's steel without actually SHOWING the steel this week.

I like how RoboSara figured out what was going on....less that everyone else trumped her, darn it.

Fun episode. Sara looked like a belter from The Expanse, with the heavy eyeliner and side braid.

Nate's arms were hilarious. I think "always hard" was his programming's rationale for why he doesn't steel up (I'm guessing the robot wasn't designed with that ability). Also why Gary only appeared in one form.

Spooner's mullet - wow. All I can say about that is Lisseth Chavez is a really good sport.

The makeup was great, everyone looked a little plastic.

I especially loved the kids in the tag thinking Nate was John Cena. I guess Suicide Squad and The Peacemaker are not set in the same universe, but that media might exist in-universe. It would be funny if they had John Cena as the actor playing The Peacemaker in an episode at some point, but Gary would think that was too meta.

This season is rocking, especially compared to s6.

Nate's arms look so much better than Luther's do in The Umbrella Academy.

I was getting a bit tired of the Spooner and Behrad bit by the end, but it's not like they had anything else to do.

Astra looked fabulous! I've always been of the opinion that dark, heavy eye make-up doesn't work on light-eyed blondes but the team keeps giving Sara on strong look after another. It's so tempting to try to replicate the treatment, but sadly, I know it won't end well.

I'm in full agreement that this season is head-and-shoulders about last season.

Credits: so great! The credits team for this show is just epic. I do pity da foo' in the writer's room who must have watched bucketloads of The A-Team for this. (But in a Peppard-Lotz hardboiled-off, Lotz would win handily.)

Lisseth Chavez is so cute when she's baying for blood that I didn't even mind the mullet really.

Nick Zano doesn't really have a Threatening Bass, but he was doing his best to get his Mick Rory on. (And that stinger was brilliant.)

Makes me nervous not to see some of the actors. I hope Tsekhman and Pemberton are okay.

I did wonder why Adam wasn't in it at all. Showing an alien the entire time had to be a lot more money, too. Less shocked that Amy wouldn't be IRL though given the part.

This was good, goofy, fun! I assume the robo-Gary that mean-Gideon made doesn't have the ability to shape shift. Likewise, the mean-Gideon that Bishop uploaded probably didn't know about human-Gideon so she couldn't have made a copy.

Will we ever see Barry create Gideon on The Flash?

Whenever I notice an actor is substantially absent from an episode I just assume that they're going to be prominently featured in a subsequent episode, and I'm usually right. So I expect we'll get an episode real soon (like the next one probably) where Gideon and Gary get to take center stage.
