He threw away a $90K a year (1969 dollars) career in baseball to be the guy that sued MLB over the reserve clause that kept players under contract at the team's whim until they retired. He paid a huge professional and personal price to make today's $25 million a year contracts possible. His impact on sports is up there with Ali or Jackie Robinson.
