aka Night Hunters. "Monsters don't stand a chance." A private investigator specializing in paranormal cases is looking for an artifact, and fights demons in bars, among other things. This episode is notable for featuring the return of Joel Robinson as host for this episode! It also has Dr. Erhardt returning, and for the second half of the movie J. Elvis Weinstein reprising his role as the voice of Tom Servo from the show's first season long, long ago. Premiered Friday 24, 2022, in the Gizmoplex.

Joel's return is explained by Dr. Erhardt traveling in time to retrieve him, but Joel looks older now. He explains it by saying he's actually from the future, from the year 3000.

Movie

Rotten Tomatoes (Critics N/A, Viewers N/A)
IMDB (2019, 4.3 stars)
"Nick Moon, P.I. (Paranormal Investigator), delves into a hidden world of monsters and creatures of the night as he takes on a case to retrieve an ancient artifact with astonishing power."
Directed by Thomas Smith. Written by Erin Lilley and Thomas Smith. Starring Khristian Fulmer, Erin Lilley, Leah Christine Johnson.

Joel has mentioned that he thinks this is the newest movie the show has ever done, but in fact I think Werewolf had a shorter time between release and riffing.

I really enjoyed Joel (whose acting seems much improved from some of the early MST3K stuff) and it's always nice to see J. I liked the call back to his high voice/low voice shtick.

I didn't think the movie itself was so bad? I feel like I have paid to watch worse.

I thought it was of the credible effort category! The story goes that it was filmed in Mobile, Alabama for $15,000. Having any special effects in that price category is a triumph.

The assistant could do glowy eyes with no explanation, and could teleport with no other explanation...I guess? But other than that, yeah, the story made a tiny lick of sense, even if it was pieced together after a binge of seasons 3 and 4 of Buffy. But yes, credible effort. I think I called at the time of reveals that this episode had Time Chasers vibes, and while not that good, unlike some other movies it has a tone, and characters, and structure.

Is this the shortest period from movie release to riffing?

I think Werewolf was actually shorter!

Demon Squad was released in 2019 and riffed in 2022. Warwilf was released in 1995 and riffed in 1997.
