Fleishman Is in Trouble: Me Time
December 23, 2022 10:44 AM - Season 1, Episode 7 - Subscribe

Libby learns of previously unknown dimensions to the Fleishman divorce.

I'm posting this because I think it was one of the most powerful hours of television I've ever seen. The New York Times put it on its list of the best episodes of the year, nothing "a wrenching performance by Claire Danes, an emotional volcano who has rarely erupted better."

Holy SHIT Claire fucking Danes . She is so talented. Her scream-cry in the support group, just completely harrowing.

Claire Danes was amazing but Liz Caplan's narration in this ep is also.

I was wrecked by last week's episode focusing on Libby's dawning understanding of her own discontent, her unmet needs and selfish impulses, and the way Toby was slowly revealing himself to be something other than she hoped. And then to watch - indeed hear, cause holy hell YES her voiceover work has been exquisite - her reckoning with who Rachel really is, and what she's gone through?

I wept and raged with Rachel and I was lacerated with guilt along with Libby. And I've read the book! It's not like I didn't know what was coming! But my god did these last two episodes go through me like knives.

Truly an exceptional episode. I was enjoying the series up until now but with a vague sense of ooh this is all a bit one-sided. This was such an incredible oi, consider this. I cried when she screamed too.

I've read the book, but haven't been watching the show. Can I watch just this episode and have it make sense? Don't really want to watch the series, but the reviews for this one episode are so consistently sky high!

Yes, it will make sense. You’ll lose the dawning feeling of finally seeing it from her side since we’ve been hearing from the husband the whole time, but it will stand fine by itself.

Extremely tough episode. It wrecked my partner up for the whole rest of the night.

Wow. I guess this brings home the face that there's more than one Fleishman here to be in trouble.
Clare Danes was amazing.

Funny story, last week I was visiting my mother in law and watching the Claire Danes episode of Finding Your Roots. My MIL highly recommended Fleishman is in Trouble (which I started watching after returning home), and asked me what else she might have seen Danes in. After rattling off a bunch of credits, I said, "basically, if you need someone to really cry and tear out your heart while they're doing it, you hire Claire Danes." If I only knew!
