Long before faith-based films became a regular feature of mainstream movie theaters, there was "The Cross and The Switchblade," the story of pastor David Wilkerson and gang member Nicky Cruz.

The movie, based on a bestselling Christian book, was written and directed by Don Murray, an actor who would next direct Damien's Island, about a priest who worked with people with leprosy.

It stars a pre-CHiPS Erik Estrada and, fresh off guest appearances on That Girl and The Beverly Hillbillies, Pat Boone.

Currently streaming free on YouTube, Hoopla (a local library might have a subscription), Tubi, and the Roku channel, rentable from Apple and Amazon.
