I was only able to watch a brief part of the show, but luckily managed to catch that Wing Pit commercial, which was hilarious.

Fancam was funny, but I’m old and not up-to-speed on language trends of the youngs, so I didn’t quite grok the entire joke.

Question about WU...Are Jost and Che reading the news pieces cold? There were a couple of times Jost almost lost it, a lot like he does when he and Che do the “write gags for the other guy to read cold” thing, which made me wonder if he hadn’t seen the script yet.

Everybody corpsing in "Birthday Girl" was a great way to end it.

The Wing Pit sketch had us howling.

Pedro was game and looked like he was having a good time, so I had a good time watching it.

The coma sketch was ridiculous and had no business being as funny as it was. And the host carried the whole thing. Well done, Mr. Pascal.

Well, and Wing Pit, obviously. All hail Chirax.

Fancam was funny, but I’m old and not up-to-speed on language trends of the youngs, so I didn’t quite grok the entire joke.

My Zoomer kid and I were talking about that sketch yesterday. I didn’t recognize eat and leave no crumbs, but that is absolutely how they talk, which led to this exchange-

“You Zoomers talk like a bunch of sassy drag queens.”
“That’s honestly the best way to sum us up.”

Was Puxatawney Phil Longfellow’s audition for WU? I hope so. And I think that WU has been peppering in random joke swaps now that they no longer do that in the Christmas episode. I’ve noticed it in other episodes.

Zoomer kid said she was kinda mad that she would watch the hell out of that Mario Kart series. Like the Fancam sketch, she hated it, which means that she found it entirely too relatable.

Many many years ago I began aging out of the musical guests. I found more often than not it was someone I hadn't heard of, or perhaps had heard of but didn't really know anything about. Then, a few years ago, I found myself aging out of the hosts. The host would obviously be some well-known actor and I knew nothing about them.

This was a rare episode where I knew of both. I enjoyed The Mandalorian and while I can't think of too many other things I've seen Pascal in, I know him well enough. And of course everyone knows Coldplay and... ugg.

But what I find happening now a lot is I've aged out of the sketch topic. I don't know TikTok culture at all and I find a lot of the time the references in sketches are lost on me. This is how it should be, SNL needs to appeal to younger generations. I had my day. It's all good. I actually enjoy learning a but about things The Kids are doing these days.

All that to say, I enjoyed the FanCam sketch even if I didn't fully get it.

Loved Wing Pit. Just... perfect.

Boy, Bowen Yang is turning into the MVP of the show, isn't he? He's in everything and almost always perfect when he is.

Sarah Sherman is my new favorite SNL cast member. I have one of those crushes I get when someone is absolutely delightful in everything they do.

How do they whip something like Mario Kart together in a week? They have amazing people working there.

The Big Hollywood quiz was great. I don't even know if those were real movies they were talking about. I do know that that seems to be the way streaming is. I'll watch a show that is the best show I've ever seen and then I find out nobody else has even heard of it.

Molly Kearney is hardly being used in the show. I hope they finds their voice. I know sometimes people are just difficult to write for or they're not great at writing themselves into sketches but I like them and hope they break out soon.

With less corpsing, this would have been a pretty solid episode (especially for a first-time host). The sketches that people managed to get through were good, and I'll probably think better of it in retrospect, but man, it went from amusing in the coma sketch to annoying in the fancam sketch to "Come on, guys" in WU to actively distracting from some really good work in the 10-to-1 (go back and watch Molly absolutely punch the wineglass).

Sometimes you can really tell when people are burned out after three weeks of new eps.

As someone who is watching The Last of Us, the Mario Kart trailer sketch was perfect! Love Pedro Pascal, really enjoyed this week.

I'm a bit disappointed that they seem to have blown a chance to have Oscar Isaac do some kind of surprise cameo with his BFF.

I guess I'm the kind of person who doesn't mind corpsing if I'm laughing uncontrollably too, as I was at the ridiculousness and absurdity of that skit.

It was called Lisa from Temecula, btw. I almost forgot it was someone's birthday.

I think they're just good at pretending. Even with the "joke swap" bit, supposedly they had already done the same jokes at dress rehearsal but still ham it up for the live show.

How do they whip something like Mario Kart together in a week?

I was wondering the same thing.

Lisa from Temecula had me choking on my own saliva. The entire thing was ridiculous comedy gold based on the stupidest premise, and to think it was the last skit. The corpsing was what made it unstoppable.

I thought this was a strong episode! The Hollywood quiz show was the best of that format since the Tom Hanks Black Jeopardy, and the inscrutable slang was an excellent angle for the fancam sketch. More of that, please.
