Helix: Scion
January 31, 2015 10:48 AM - Season 2, Episode 3 - Subscribe

As the CDC team continues to investigate the mystery viral breakout on the island of the culty people, the creepiness factor gets upped with fraternizations, confrontations, beautifully large ornate windows, drugs, a very unBrady Bunch like gang of children in the woods and a family reunion with the world's greatest dad.

Remember Doreen from season 1? I was disappointed she was killed and wondered what she would think of the antics of the current season, hence a recap written from her point of point.

Otherwise, just a really fun episode, as the show reveled in being creepy and weird as it advanced the plot. When it tried to dwell on the science it faltered, which isn't surprising, never was its strong suit.

But the opening scene? Hatake's antics? The children stoning Dr. Kyle to "It's a Sunshine Day" by The Brady Bunch? Just too much fun. It's as if the show hired someone to specifically up the weirdness and creepiness and this is the first episode they worked on.

Doctor Cowboy, no! And that really should have killed him. I figured he was getting Nadined for sure.

Just about the only reason I was still watching this show was for Hatake and his reappearance did not disappoint. Apparently a few decades of immortality has turned him completely batshit but he's still hot.

Fifteen months pregnant with flat tummy? I wonder if Sarah's birthing experience is going to turn out like that infamous scene from Alien.

She's stopped aging, so the kid and her body are "frozen" in time. Hence the flat belly.

Eternal pregnancy sounds like a nightmare, but I am warming up more to this season with each new episode.

Doctor Kyle Texas likes to break the fourth wall. When he has the chalkboard epiphany he looks into the camera and says something about "for those of you playing along at home". When he gets revived in the lab his first words are "sunshine day".

Also I feel like this show is totally missing an opportunity by flashing only "#Helix" during its most camp scenes. I seem to remember Orphan Black having cutesy hashtags for particular scenes, so why not #GloveLove or #GroupHug or something actually clever.

He's over 500 years old. That's more than a few decades.
