Twenty-four hours in the lives of the young employees at Empire Records when they all grow up and become young adults thanks to each other and the manager. They all face the store joining a chain store with strict rules.

Happy Rex Manning Day, this is one of my favourite movies and I felt like it should be on FanFare! Another one I watched a while after it came out but loved it immediately.

Happy Rex Manning Day, to all those who celebrate. 16 year old me loved this! And 44 year old me feels a re-watch is long overdue. Thanks for this!

Happy Rex Manning Day! I love this movie even though some of it hasn't aged well at all (but such is the curse of movies of our youth).

Extra special Rex Manning Day shout out to my teenage best friend Jeff, whom I forced into watching this movie more times than he ever wanted.

Happy Rex Manning Day! I think I first read about this in Teen Vogue and knew it would never come to our local movie theater, nor would I be able to convince my parents to drive me to see it somewhere distant. Thank goodness for Hollywood Video!

Happy Rex Manning Day! I am going to celebrate by gluing some quarters to the floor. And don't ask me why. I don't feel that I need to explain my art to you, Warren.

My boss got upset when somebody glued fifty-cent coins on the walkway up to the main entrance.

I wish I knew who would do such a thing... or who had put them back when the walkway was resurfaced.

Out of curiosity... you've left Renee Zellweger out of the tags. Has she done something to render herself persona non grata?

Oh no! Unlike when I posted Now and Then, this isn’t one I’ve rewatched recently!

Copy paste error! Added. The credits are in such a weird order compared to todays fame levels!

"What is with today, today?" is part of my personal lexicon.

Also, I tried for years to find the version of "Seems" by Queen Sarah Saturday for years they use in the movie. I was never successful. I found the OG album version on a QSS album bought in a Charleston SC record store in the 90s, but it's not the same one in the movie.

Idk, I think it does okay! There is some thoughtful treatment around disordered eating and suicidal ideation. The Liv Tyler/Rex Manning lunch scene is upsetting but not sympathetic to Rex. There's not the rampant use of slurs that you find in a lot of 90s movies. It probably fares about as well as Clueless, all things considered.

"We mustn't dwell. No, not today. We can't. Not on Rex Manning day."

Me boyfriend and I watched very different movies as adolescents, so I am perpetually putting 90s teen classics on and he has never seen them. He missed the entire Ethan Embry ouvre! Wasted youth.

Are you sure the album version isn't the one they use in the movie? They sound really close to me. (The vocals in the movie version sound a little rougher to me but I think it's because the actors are singing.) Or maybe this one?
