Oh, man, that drunken rant... I saw it coming the minute it was clear how drunk he was getting. "They're highlighting his drinking - he's about to get trashed and do something stupid..." When he picked up the mic I had to curl up in a ball on my couch and try to pretend it wasn't happening.

I didn't quite understand what was happening during the conversation between Brady and Patrick about PrEP. It's probably because I'm not familiar with the issue, beyond what I learned in a MeFi post on the blue years ago, but I wasn't sure if Brady taking PrEP was supposed to signify something about him, or Patrick's blundering into the conversation was just another symptom of his awful behavior that night.

The editing made it a little confusing, but maybe purposefully so. One the one hand, Patrick's awful behavior was definitely showing through then, but on the other we don't really know enough about Brady to put it in context: it could just be that he's super-cautious about HIV (which makes him like Patrick in one sense, but unlike Patrick he's doing something about it), it also implies that he either has money or really good health insurance (it is generally not cheap), and it possibly indicates that either the thing with Richie isn't serious OR they're serious but have an open relationship (which I kind of doubt) OR there's something Richie never told Patrick.

This show's definitely taking a "you'll learn when you need to know" approach with some of these things.
