Kylie Bucknell is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. However, when she too becomes privy to unsettling whispers & strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether she's inherited her overactive imagination, or if the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who's less than happy about the new living arrangement.

I love going into a movie with few expectations -- just those based on some vague recommendations and the knowledge that the filmmaker doesn't have many credits that I'm aware of -- and being immediately on the movie's wavelength. From scene one it was clear that the director knew exactly what he was doing, and he played the humor and suspense as comfortably as a seasoned pro.

(It's been over a month since I had the chance to watch it, but I plan on re-watching this weekend so I may be back with a more detailed critique later.)

I think it's an indicator of how good the direction is that early in the film, Eugene's appearance, in fleeting glimpses, can be truly terrifying... while later, it's a beverage-spewing-through-your-nose-level-funny sight gag.

I loved the escalation of twists, it could've ended on any one of them but KEPT GOING. it changed genres like four times.

Also I love that her reaction to supernatural spook tropes is blunt no nonsense and kind of violent.

"What are you going to do if you see a hostile spirit?"
"I'm going to smash it in the face."

I love the mom character, who is one of the mommest moms ever mommed on screen.

I really enjoy this movie. Though, the last time I watched it I kind of spoiled it by saying "there may or may not be a hider in the house..."
