Ping Pong Summer (2014)

1985. Ocean City, Maryland. Summer vacation. Rap music. Parachute pants. Ping pong. First crushes. Best friends. Mean bullies. Weird mentors. That awkward-but-momentous time in your life when you're treated like an alien by everyone around you, even though you know deep down you're as funky fresh as it gets.

Saw this two weeks ago. Protagonist was pretty unlikable. In-laws visit was kinda fun but served little purpose. Wife and I were comparing scenes to Karate Kid. Susan Sarandon as Mister Miyagi!

This was one of my favorite movies of last year! I think it makes a lot more sense if you see it after watching writer/director Michael Tully's previous film, Septien. They both have a very odd tone.

Thanks rabbitroom, will check that one out. I love films with an odd tone so much a former housemate banned me from picking what we would watch!

I liked this, worked well for a quiet Easter Monday public holiday here. I really identified with the sullen gothy sister, had several family holidays like that!
