aw i really enjoyed this shaggy dog story. maybe it would have been better mid season - but sometimes i like being dropped into the finale from a relatively soft spot.

also, i still may be way off base, but i think the captain and his daughter might be part of the finale...

Loved being dropped in the middle of that first postcredit scene -- it's a small thing, but when the camera pans down to see Sherlock getting handcuffed by a cop while Joan looks on with a 'I told you so' expression I felt great joy. They're finally going to let me figure something out for myself!

I was actually kind of sad that they then felt the need to explain just how Sherlock got arrested. Really, there's no need. He is Holmes, that cop is a local very young cop, and Watson doesn't look too worried. I can figure out the details myself.

You may be on to something - all those hints at the end about "carrot vs stick" where it's made clear that somebody in the NYPD wants Gregson moved elsewhere, and since the promotion carrot didn't work that means a stick is coming down; and we've already seen that Hannah Gregson is willing to cut corners in service of her ambition. So, yeah, I could certainly see where this is all connected, there's some Gregson family/NYPD politics thing going on that'll come to fruition next time. (Maybe Hannah's behind the move against the Captain? Maybe someone's trying to take Hannah down a peg and striking at her indirectly through her father?)

OTOH, though, the show's really not had a clear longer story arc since Kitty left, so . . . . . maybe not, maybe there's something else from past episodes that'll come to a head in the finale. Too hard to predict, IMO - I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, and I wouldn't be surprised if you're not, if you see what I mean.

Whether the finale makes us all go, "Wait, WTF, where did that come from!!??" or, "Ooooooohhhh, I see what they did there!" remains to be seen . . . .

yeah - i can totally see hannah not being involved. i just feel hinky about the explanation that she was just too ambitious in the previous episode. to me it seemed like a light bulb went off when joan was explaining that they'd catch the bigger fish if the warehouse was left alone - like she knew that would lead to her. i'm probably way off base - that episode just felt weird in similar ways to how this one felt weird. it also seemed like they kept purposefully getting the picture of hannah on the captain's desk in the frame.

we'll see soon, i suppose.
