Louie: Bobby's House
May 14, 2015 10:02 PM - Season 5, Episode 4 - Subscribe

Louie and his brother Bobby go to a wake. Bobby complains that Louie has never been in his apartment.

I was impressed that Louie had his funeral suit all ready to go.
Funny Bobby lines:
"Bro, he fought in Vietnam."
"You didn't even know he was dead!"
"How long you think we're gonna be up here for?"
"You're my younger brother. You're 44. I'm 47."

I thought the part with Pamela was just kind of disturbing and hard to watch, as are most Pamela stories. You have to give her credit for being a lady who knows her own mind. I guess I really just don't like the trope of the monstrous, aggressive woman, and it bothers me that Louie goes back to it so much. Downton Abbey also loves a monstrous woman.

On the other hand this was another example of the thing comedy shows do a lot lately of finding a premise and then iterating on the premise and ramping it up until it's reached its biggest, most absurd conclusion. This is hopefully the biggest, most absurd, and final iteration of the "Louie as beta male in his relationship with Pamela" story.

I was really bothered by this episode. That scene with Pamela was a straight-up rape scene, and I thought it was played for laughs.

Overall I haven't like this season as much as previous ones, and this episode felt like a definite low point.
