Up Series Club is a new club for watching documentaries in the Up Series

I have rashly made a club for watching the eight documentaries that make up the Up Series: Up Series Club. If you're interested in watching twenty British children from all walks of life grow up and (hopefully) fulfill their potential. Then this club is for you. This talk post is for both planning viewing times and shamelessly promoting the club's existence.

I love this idea. I've probably only seen the first three or four. I didn't realize there were EIGHT !! Although, of course there are. Seven times eight is just 56. And yeah, I guess they must be about that age by now. God, I'm getting old !!

So besides Marsha, where is everyone in the series? I haven't started yet.

Yeah, I need to create an event for the first one. Maybe for this coming Wednesday?

Works for me. How do I get notifications? The "subscribe" button opens in a podcast app.

I totally love this series, including the international ones. Some things about it make me uncomfortable and it will be interesting to see what others think.

I like this idea a lot. Never seen any of them but have been meaning to for ages. One every two weeks is about all I can manage, I think. Maybe one a week but that's pushing it. If folks want to move faster that's cool, I'll catch up.

Ok, I totes made an event for watching the first Up movie next wednesday. Waaay later than planned, so we could conceivably move it -erm- up. But yeah. Up Series Club! Wee!

Thanks, Going To Maine. This seems like a perfect fit for Fanfare!

Man, I am doing a terrible job at running this club. I want this to happen, for realsies, but I haven't been making it occur. So - Seven Up is going up on Fanfare to-morrow night. It's 30 minutes long, so I will have finished up my notes, and that will be that. Argh! Up Series Club!

Watched the first 2 Monday night, so I'm there for you :)

They're both pretty short, which is a plus.

It's weird that I'm trying not to read too much about them to avoid spoilers about how everyone turns out, right?

Thank you so much for doing this. I love these films so much. I own the DVD set, which goes up to 42, and have seen them all including 49 and 56, multiple times.

Going to be hard for me not to talk about them as a collection. So much of what happens in each is informed by the last or the next or three films later. I apologize in advance if I slip up.

You know, I'm really fine with folks discussing future episodes. I think it'll make the conversation more lively to have more participants, and a distinction between re-watching and a first watch in this case seems a bit like overkill. That's just me, but I'm curious if other first-watchers feel the same.

Either way, we should clarify in the next post whether talking about the future films is ok. I say yes.

Love to keep going so I'll be posting the 2nd in the series tomorrow, but just wanted to confirm that we're OK with talking about future episodes in the film threads. Spoiler alerts seem a bit off the point in this case. OK with everyone?

I'll post the 3rd in the series, 21 Up, on Thursday, and try to post every Thursday after for the next 5 weeks to finish out. Also, I'll mention directly that series spoilers are OK in all Up_Series discussions. Cool?
