My Brother, My Brother And Me: MBMBaM 259: Birthday Surprise Hole
July 6, 2015 11:25 AM - Subscribe

So, look. Here's the thing. We prepped all our questions for this episode, but about 10 minutes in, we realized that we just weren't going to do them. So, in this bizarre installment of MBMBaM, we share advice that we wish we could have given our past selves -- important instructions like: Hey, put that bottle of frosted tip gel down. Put it in the garbage, actually.   Suggested talking points: Cold Showers, Exotic Salsas, Video Toasters, Minkus Khan, Safety Patrol, The Pub, Vintage Cocaine, Balls Out United, Peer-Reviewed Bacon, Credit Card Collapse, On Frosted Tips, The Worst Birthday Present of All Time

I'm only about halfway through the ep but it's already the goddamn best thing.

Usually the oldest sibling is the one who is the most sober, the most responsible, the least likely to take crazy risks. That is not true of the McElroy brothers: holy moley, Justin.

Oh man, I thought drug kingpin Justin would be the pinnacle but the back half just kept bringing the hits. Amazing.

This show is having the unexpected side-effect of making me fascinated with Huntington, West Virginia.

I feel like this was some kind of payoff for following this show week in and week out for the last three years.

Incroyable.

This episode was amazing.

I love Justin and Griffin, but I feel like we hear the most about their exploits and very few of Travis'... which makes me kind of suspicious that maybe his stories are so insane that they can't be told on-air.

It didn't come up in this episode, but I thought Travis kind of has a checkered work history.

I like that the question of whether or not Justin stole a copy of showgirls is an ongoing debate.

Wow. Just...wow. It's going to take me a while to recover from this episode and the nightmares induced by Justin's titular gift.

this reminded me most of an episode of you look nice today, which i'm fairly sure was something that inspired these guys to start the show in the first place? this was just one of those perfect hours of radio. wouldn't say that i want them to ditch the questions but i do hope we get a "birthday surprise hole 2" some day

The degree to which I identify with Justin McElroy is... frankly bizarre. Now what I really want is Birthday Surprise Adventure Hole, to bring their Dad into the conversation.

Balls Out Goddamn United.

I did sincerely want to hear them talk about candied bacon recipes.

If you've never listened to the MaxFunDrive bonus eps with their dad, they're a real treat.

I never have the $$ to commit to a monthly pledge (hello grad school, where even $10/mo is hard), but every year I do the math in my head again to see if I can manage it, because oh my God the bonus episodes.
