The ghosts of Kevins Past start interfering with the Night Vale signal. Oh, poor Past Kevin....

Wow, this was a cross between A Christmas Carol and The Girl In The Fireplace.

"What is the use of nostalgia for what didn't happen, when we have to live with what did?" Could Cecil and Kevin have been friends? Could Desert Bluffs and Night Vale have been sister towns?

Oh, the heartbreak!

"Stay tuned next for a feeling in your chest that will never quite sit right with you again."

This episode does make you wonder: could time have been changed here?

I can't believe I feel sorry for Kevin, and yet here we are.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think we're already in the timeline where changes were made. That is: Daniel did get assigned to Night Vale, and the first attempt at an uprising (in "Parade Day") did fail. But then I never quite get along well with time-travel plots...

Also: good weather, fun proverb.

I can't even believe this happened, but I totally forgot that there was a new Night Vale episode being released yesterday, and this FanFare thread was what reminded me.

Anyway, yeah. All the feels:

- Desert Bluffs and Night Vale seem to overlap in events but not in time. During Sandstorm, it seemed that Desert Bluffs was further forward from Night Vale, judging from the comments about Night Vale's old radio equipment. In this episode, both towns had a vortex open up, but this time Night Vale was further in the future.

- What is "The Incident"?

- Cecil: I’ll admit, this is a little exciting. How is the future?
Kevin: Desolate.
Cecil: Okay, not what I expected, if I’m honest.

Why wasn't he expecting it? Kevin was last seen in a desolate Desert Otherworld, after all.

- The FEELS when Kevin asked what the future would bring, and Cecil paused for a long. time. and then began to tell Kevin a comforting story. The FEELS. My commute is 50 minutes long but after listening to Night Vale today I had to listen to Radical Face for the rest of my drive in because I was thinking way too much to concentrate on my normal history-flavored podcasts.

Night Vale's mall food court sounded amazing.

Almost everything in Night Vale has a counterpart in Desert Bluffs. As evidenced by this episode, they started out pretty similar.

So, what made Night Vale different?

Was it Carlos?

Was it Carlos?

FASCINATING theory. We don't actually know when "The Incident" or Strex's takeover happened, since the first time we hear from Desert Bluffs in person is during Sandstorm, and they were already Strexed up. HOWEVER, the takeover must have been recent in that episode, since Kevin comments "The Sunbeams also welcome a new owner in 2013: StrexCorp Synernists Incorporated." AND I think that The Incident (whatever that is) must have happened after the pilot, because Cecil points out that "Desert Bluffs is always trying to show us up through fancier uniforms, better pre-game snacks, and possibly by transporting a commercial jet into our gymnasium, delaying practice for several minutes at least."

Is it possible that Night Vale and Desert Bluffs had a nice, normal rivalry, and then not long after Pilot, things started to change?
