The NFL Today: NFL Week 2
September 20, 2015 8:43 AM - Season 48, Episode 2 - Subscribe

First try for Fanfare football fun. Week 2 big games: KC-Denver, Seattle-GB, and NE-Buffalo

This is intended as more of a discussion of the NFL in general for the week than the actual CBS show, but feel free to comment on that too. If anyone has input on how this should be done or wants to try next week, please share!

I've got Browns v. Titans on the air in Portland. Both young QBs are looking good in this game, with a slight edge to Manziel.

Anyone know when the Saints will actually arrive to their game?

Is it too early to say that... false spoiler! :D

Watching CAR-HOU and WAS-STL here in NC. I feel like the NFL owes me a refund.

"Anyone know when the Saints will actually arrive to their game?"

Turns out they made a guest appearance somewhere in the fourth quarter, just long enough to build up some hope and then dash it back down.

Why the hell can't any broadcaster give me the end of the pats/bills game?

Look forward to seeing which Vikings show up next week. This was a good game to watch, but who knows if it will last. At the very least, nice to see Bridgewater lost the deer in the headlights thing he had Monday.

And of course no one was going to pull him out but Stafford should not have been in the game at the end there.

I'm amused to see all of Chip Kelly's off season maneuvering produce this terrible offense.

Honestly delighted that the Bills didn't lose by 30 points.

I'm grateful that the NFC South is as terrible as it usually is and the Panthers might have a shot at three in a row.

I'm actively rooting against the Eagles this year because of their ridiculous moves.

"the NFC South is as terrible as it usually is"

It's astounding, isn't it? The Saints lost a home game to the Bucs. The Bucs. At least last year the Saints were aiming for Least Dumpster Fire of NFC South but now ... good god. Lost all pre-season games, 0-2 in the regular season, and Brees looks shoulder-hurt but no one will admit to it.

The Saints decided to trade away some of their quality players; no idea why, but if they're anything like Panthers' upper management, it was probably financial. Don't get me started on losing Steve Smith, DeAngelo Williams, Jon Beason, and even back to Julius Peppers a few years ago. I've been a Panthers fan since '95 (still a Broncos fan from the 80's), but God is it hard.

We'll be fine in conference, especially once Luke feels better, but losing Kelvin Benjamin for the season is hard. Glad Olsen is healthy and happy.

Saw on Twitter this morning a photo of RGIII photoshopped into a Cowboys uniform. I'm still laughing about it.

So here's a thing I only learned recently about collarbones and why they're so relatively fragile: they're supposed to be fragile, because that way, when you fall on an outstretched hand, all of that force dissipates while breaking the clavicle rather than transmitting straight through to your spine.

Governor of Texas wants Cowboys to sign Tim Tebow with Romo out.

Please please please pleeease...

I wonder how Tebow feels about having his name pulled into every questionable QB situation. Does he like it? Welcome it, even? Has he resigned himself to a quiet broadcasting career? Is he resenting the Governor? Is there fanfic about this?

Can't be that hard when you get a few of these a game.

Lol. Well there are a lot of Cam-haters in NC, and I'll never really understand why. He's not the best QB; he's not Peyton or Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, but he's a hell of a lot more versatile than many others in the position. Everyone's like HE IS SO ARROGANT. And it's like, dude, he's in his mid 20s and has shattered quite a few NFL records and won a Heisman and a national championship and people want him to be humble like Tim Tebow or something. Fuck the haters! I like Cam a lot, but I don't own his jersey, just my retired 89 (sorry, I still think he's the best WR in the game) and my current 59.

Sorry. I tend to get a little soapboxy when my Panthers are involved.

Yyyep. Every complaint about quarterbacks who run too much vanishes when you look at who gets shit for it: Michael Vick, Randall Cunningham, Steve McNair, Donovan McNabb... those are the #1, #2, #5, and #6 rushing quarterbacks of all time by yardage. Who are #3, #4, and #7? Steve Young, Fran Tarkenton, John Elway -- two first-ballot Hall of Famers and a third-ballot Hall of Famer. Vick will likely never make the Hall. Cunningham has been eligible since 2007 and is still not in. Steve McNair has been eligible since 2012. McNabb will be eligible in a few years and is a borderline case.

Sure, there are arguments to be made about playoff success (Young, Tarkenton, and Elway have 11 Super Bowl appearances and 5 rings among them; Vick, Cunningham, McNair, and McNabb have 2 appearances and 0 rings among them), but even if you ignore the results, all four of the African-American running QBs were slammed throughout their career just for being running QBs, and you never heard word one about whether Young or Elway ran too much, and Tarkenton was all but canonized for it.
