I can't believe this is the first FanFare post about this show! I keep seeing it pop up in comments around the Blue.

I know this show has some traction so if you've been keeping up - how do you feel about things so far? Will you keep listening into the second season?

I'm also surprised this is the first FanFare post about it as well, usually I'm over at /r/theblacktapes to talk about it. I love this podcast!

I'm loving Black Tapes. It's like everything that was good about Marble Hornets, without any of the stuff that ultimately made Marble Hornets terrible. They've done an amazing job taking what looked like one-off Monster Of The Week stories and tying them on to a cohesive narrative as the show goes on. The voice acting can be a bit meh, but mostly just for one-off side characters, and it's not enough to really affect my enjoyment of the show personally. I'm really excited to hear how the season ends, and to check out next season. It seems like they have way too many balls in the air to wrap everything up in one episode, so I'm curious to see what they're going to resolve this season and what they'll save for next season.

The most scary part of this weeks episode was "Next week our season finale" Nooo! Got hooked on this a few weeks ago and finally got caught up.

Oh well...still loving the show. I too was surprised about the transition form monster of the week to everything being inter-connected. There is no way to wrap it all up next week but if I had to make a guess I would say we may get come closure one way or another on Strands wife maybe even getting to hear from her?

Stolen coffee cup...the forensic scientist in me immediately goes the DNA route and someone is trying to prove Strand is/is not who he says he is.....though with all the "paranormal" stuff they may of wanted something with something FROM Strand like saliva for more nefarious purposes....

Either way can't wait for the next episode.

I'm a big fan of The Black Tapes. I love that the episodes are so well-produced - except for some hilarious attempts at "British", the acting is generally great, and it all has the feeling of an NPR show from a mostly identical parallel universe.

The wait for next season will be terrible - I don't see how they can resolve any of the major plot lines next episode, so I'm assuming we'll get a couple of major cliffhangers. But maybe not!

I took the "Carl" who showed up for Alex to be a demon. The way she described him (several times over) as smoking hot made him sound like someone too perfect to be true - like a demon trying to pass for human, maybe?

The callback to the Girl with the Upside Down Face was great! That episode gave me creepy-crawly shivers all over, and it was a really nice take on an urban legend. So giving their shadowy demon pal that face was a really neat touch. Creepy, but neat. (So... does it have two eye-socket mouths and one eye, or just a mouth over its nose and two eyes down by the chin? I wasn't quite clear on that detail.)

Yeah, this - I immediately thought of old-school descriptions of Lucifer as the most beautiful angel. And if "Carl" is a demon, I'd imagine the coffee cup is to get a bit of Strand for something supernatural, voodoo doll-style.

I really love this podcast. The acting is horrible and I have to adjust to that, but the storytelling is great. The upside face thing was so f-ing scary I loved it.

So my grandfather was one of those ‘Monuments Men’ guys after the war ended - I guess they figured a Methodist chaplain would be good at finding lost religious art? We think he got the assignment because he liked to draw and the Army was like “good enough for us!”

Anyways, he didn’t bring back any lost artifacts or anything, but he did have a big book of sketches - architecture, statues, paintings, and whatever else he could find to draw. This piece always stood out because it was inked onto a bed sheet or pillowcase or something. He didn’t nail it to the plank until after Grandma died. He went to the home after that.
