Sleepy Hollow EP Weighs In: Did [Spoiler] Really Die in Fall Finale?!

I'm more worried that we're going to have a significant lack of Abbie/Ichabod screen time when the show comes back in February than that they've actually done something so moronic as to kill her off. Oh well, Friday night death timeslot, here we come.

Nicole Beharie has been rumoured to be displeased with her character arc, so I wouldn't be completely surprised if they killed Abbie off or significantly reduced her screen time.
In the end, it's the same problem with Sleepy Hollow - once the MotW episodes die down for the big arch storyline, the series cut down on the fish-out-of-water humour and the independence war references, which is what made the first season so enjoyable. Trying to make a drama (or at least serious supernatural) out of this doesn't work.

I'm guessing last week was effectively the series finale for a lot of people. A crappy mid-season ending, two months off and Friday Death Slot means very few people might care when it's back.

Well, the ending was solidly in the "contract negotiation" tradition. Have something happen to the character which can easily be spun as A) Outright end of the character, or B) Something the character can somehow be rescued from, depending on how negotiations go.

Sadly, I agree that the steam has just about run-out for the show's concept.

I don't think the concept that has run out of steam, it's the showrunners insistence on focusing on the "mythology arc" that has ruined the series. When they do the monster of the week business and allow the natural quirks of the show breathe, it is still good. The writing isn't strong enough for more serious stuff and it shows when they bring Moloch, Henry, Katrina, now Penelope and the Osiris or whatever the guy is to the forefront. Turning the badass Headless Terminator into a jilted lover was also another disservice to the series. It's like they...dunno, Anakin'd him. One moment he's attacking a lab with a shotgun and chopping heads with an axe, the next he's whining why the sand is so rough or something. Sooooo disappointing.

One fervent hope I have from this cliffhanger is that Ichabod's ill-advised attempt to summon some random shit out of the box will release Headless in full-on "fuck all of this shit and Ichabod in particular" terminator mode. Pandora even said something to the effect of "which creature in that box do you expect to respond to your call?" When she said that I was actually expecting the final seconds of the cliffhanger to be Headless showing up pissed, and I still hold out hope that they can un-Anakin him out of this.

I also don't think the Friday Death Slot is necessarily doom for the show - Grimm has survived fine on Friday nights AFAIK (not great ratings, but pretty flat) and so they may be hoping that the Grimm audience will be willing to tune in an hour earlier on Friday nights for this. In which case it's actually smart cross-network planning, so yay for them.

This like times a million. We see Abbie and Joe with Jenny still out trying to get past Whatshisname, then suddenly sounds of a major struggle break out, he looks back and leaves in a hurry, after a few seconds we hear both Whatshisname and Penelope give the scream of death, a distraught Crane runs inside, shuts the door, gives a faint "he's... back", and the Horseman's glowing axe chops through the door between the camera and Crane. See you in February.

A pissed-off, nothing to lose, god-killing Headless. It would be glorious.

If Abbie's gone, I'm gone.

Also, when is Ichabod going to namedrop Hamilton - either the play or the man? It better happen soon, enough time has passed.

I like that "Burly Toga Wearing Frat Guy Who Pukes” was in the closing credits. Everything else? Gah.

This show should be a lean, mean, MotW-generating machine. The arc stuff is always just abysmal. Let the cast hunt down beasties and have good chemistry together.

From oh yeah!'s link:
TVLINE | The ‘shippers are going to enjoy what you just said. To be clear, Ichabod views Abbie as someone he is in love with?
I don’t think there’s ever been a question that he’s in love with her. Those are complicated emotions… Crane is trying to find his place in the modern world, and [she’s] someone he had no choice but to immediately partner up with. In essence, it’s a supernatural work relationship. It’s hard to separate those two things out. But I don’t think that anybody who looks at the two of them, particularly when they are looking at each other, can’t see the unquestionable depths of their love for each other.
I can't decide whether this guy is trolling, being coy, or simply doesn't know what "in love" means.
