I might be one of, if not THE biggest MBMBAM fan.

But this was not a good episode.

And that Sad Lib was ... bad. Really bad.

Way too drunk Justin never augurs well.

As a new MBMBAM fan I'm wondering...should I just skip the live episodes? I've heard negative things.

I've not listened to this one yet but I'm a huge McElroy fan and I often skip the live episodes. They're never as good.

I thought it was OK. One of recent live shows, maybe Portland? (or was that the ghost episode?) Was hilarious.

I'm usually ambivalent on their live shows but I thought this one was actually pretty good.

I generally do. Between the boys yelling into their mics, the in-person stuff that doesn't translate well to audio, the sometimes dodgy sound quality, and Justin occasionally getting a bit too loose, they don't usually work for me. To be clear, I don't begrudge it - I'm sure the live shows bring in a pretty penny, and I think the recent Home for the Candlenights thing in particular is more for them than for us.

Like watching a live music gig on Youtube, I imagine it's a lot better if you're actually there.

Their Seattle show was the most fun I've ever had at a live thing. It was really incredible. The ENTIRE audience was engaged.

I just don't think it translates well for me into a recording and, like Rock Steady, I don't hold it against them at all.

Except sad libs. I hold sad libs against Travis.

Sad Libs is the ne plus ultra of Travis' commitment to a bit. It's genuinely awful, but he's going to keep at it until he's literally physically restrained from doing so.

travis used my word this year so fuck all y'all sad libs forEVA

I really like the live episodes -- a friend and I tend to save them for when we have long driving trips together.

I like the live shows in general but haven't been impressed by the Candlenights shows thus far. This one was worth it for Justin's, "You want a cast iron skillet so old that something in it had a racist slang name." I am stealing that.

I'm also a fairly new fan and have been slowly working through the back catalog (happiness is finding a podcast you really enjoy then finding it has years of back episodes). I'm only up to about Episode 80, and while there have been a few live episodes that were below average, there's been some good ones and at least one that had me laughing as much as the funniest non-live shows.

On the other hand, there's almost 300 episodes. Even if you skip all the live shows, you're still gonna plenty of funny to last you a while.

Does anyone know if there was a live "Things I Bought At Sheetz" as part of the Candlenights celebration?

I'm not a big fan of their live episodes, but man this one was pretty funny.
"You want a skillet old enough to have had something with a racist nickname in it" is brilliant.
