I am a bit baffled about the two-thread decision, but am about to sit down and watch this now.

While I do, Tor.com really liked it: MTV’s The Shannara Chronicles is a Modern Take on an Old Classic. They talk about the first four episodes, but not so spoilery.

They have also been re-reading Elfstones over the past few weeks.

Why? This is the thread where book spoilers are fair game, the other is for those who prefer show-only talk. It may not be necessary considering how loosely they're basing the show on the book, but, no harm in launching both threads to see which gets activity.

I liked this episode better than the pilot. Not that I think it was any better, but now that my initial "What the hell is this?" reaction is past I can better enjoy the the stupid thing.

Yeah, the very first thread on the show turned into a unbearable megillah of back and forth outrage over book spoilers. I am Team2Threads for life.

i kind of hate everyone on this show except for amberle and manu bennett but i can feel eritrea growing on me, mostly because of the occasional moments when her spanish accent peeks through in the dialogue

i am hoping for some serious canon divergence where wil is thrown into the sea with his pockets full of rocks while amberle and eritrea make out a lot

Fair enough.

This episode, as far as my memory goes, has zip to do with the books, other than moving in the same plottish direction.

I get the love for manu bennett (no love for Gimli The Elven King?) but Ambergries and African Nation really seem to be struggling to sell their characters to me, but on the plus side, I was able to tell them apart this episode.

I'm not in love with the show, it isn't like the books, and it is far too teen drama (seriously, Wil, loose the fucking hoodie... no, not in a scene of rampant cheese and Eve Alice style undressing), but I may as well plough through to the end.

And apparently Brooks signed off on all the changes (including the mushing of Brona into the Dagda Mor, which in that case WTF, who was the Big Bad in Sword?) so I guess Bad Ass Allanon fits in with his vision.

You know what though? It is so T for Teen that it keeps reminding me of Spellbinder, right down to the cheesy acting and effects.

And, if it gets to series seven, there are airships.

I too had qualms about the hoodie/leather jacket combo, but...at least it beats the ruff

The Public Life of Sherlock Holmes: The Shannara Chronicles

Talks about the changes between book and TV. Not too much in the way of spoilers, for those worried.

I'm trying to remember enough of the book to be able to tell the changes. Was there as much apocalypse lampshading in the books? Because I'm beginning to actually enjoy that.
