How to Be a Girl: Episode IX: School (Part I)

This episode has been six months in the making, because that's how long it took for this story to play out. It's the story of my daughter entering second grade at a new school where we knew no one, almost no one knew her secret, and I had no idea how I was going to keep her safe. Wow. I thought perhaps the hiatus was permanent. I really hope that things go smoother for them from here. How incredibly difficult to both try to make your daughter understand that she is fine and perfect and "normal" and yet that she has a "secret" that she can't just tell the world about. It's kind of heartbreaking. She seems like such a cool kid, and it's ironic that if she weren't so good at making friends she wouldn't be butting up against this.
