Mefi Horror Club Selection: Class of Nuke 'Em High
April 8, 2016 6:14 PM - Subscribe

At Tromaville High School, located a stone's throw from the local Nuclear Power Plant, the students are getting brighter. In fact, they are beginning to get a green glow!

This Troma classic inspired two sequels. If you've never watched a Troma film, it is VERY NSFW. It's campy, silly, gross, bloody, with lots of gratuitous nudity.

The Class of Nuke 'Em High is currently available FOR FREE on youtube. This version is the director's cut with previously removed footage restored.

If you've never watched a Troma film, it is an experience not to be missed.

This movie was hysterically funny. I still remember the stoners buying the weed grown in the radioactive soil of the power plant: "How does this shit grow so fast??"

This and Surf Nazis Must Die were late 80s super touchstones, but danged if I remember any of it.

The band at the dance is The Smithereens.

"Freeze! Drop that bone!"

It's interesting to remember back at how significant and over the top these movies were when they came out, but now the setup and plot feel like a pastiche of old Jack Benny and Bob Hope bits. And the effects speak for themselves.

Loved this in high school. My Troma thoughts are now always overshadowed by the night about ten years ago when I was in a Cleveland dive bar the night of a horror con (of which I was unaware) and Lloyd Kaufman just breezed in and looked around, smiling broadly, and suddenly the place was filled with an entourage of dozens. It was incredibly surreal, so much so that a stunning woman walking around with no pants on (I think I know who this was, but I would not deign to speak out of school and it was dark in there besides) went by nearly without notice. Good times, good times.
