Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Gives Up!
April 17, 2016 8:38 PM - Season 2, Episode 5 - Subscribe

Jacqueline tries drugging her child. Kimmy doesn't do well on her GED exam because she's distracted by Dong and his fake marriage. Dong's wife has been dating a statue? Oh yeah, and this is a musical episode.

This Sonia-and-Neptune thing...damn, girl.

Kimmy, don't let a dude drag you down!

Oh goody, more "Daddy's Boy!"

Someone please say something intelligent about "Daddy's Boy" because I can't.

I don't think that's possible. I mean, it's wonderful, but it's also immune to intelligent thought.

It could be seen as a commentary on how musicals and certain movies were GAY AS GAY COULD POSSIBLY BE WITH A SPRINKLING OF GAY ON TOP but with the tiniest little fig leaf of plausible deniability.

As soon as Titus starting singing about being eaten by birds I went ""SONDHEIM PARODY" and lo, it was.

Loved love loved all the musical stuff. Really hated the "drug the kid" storyline- could it have been any more heavy-handed?

I breathed a sigh of relief so big the couch shifted every time it cut away from the whole "did you realize that drugs for kids" plot

Ellie Harper is never not perfect, so she at least made the episode bearable, but WOW this season has been uneven. It really is every other episode so far where the writers just grind their axes, isn't it.

At least there was more Daddy's Boy

Yeah it's why I'm hoping we get to the back 6 episodes cause it becomes way more even and like, a different show?

I actually mentioned to my wife afterward that I was looking forward to the next episode because, being an even-numbered episode this season, I can confidently state that the writers will not spend half of the episode on out-of-touch axe grinding

they managed to make a musical episode into a joyless slog, which is at least on its face kind of a remarkable achievement, admittedly

I have really been enjoying this season! I am apparently not bothered by as much as everyone here (although the race stuff was, ugh, not great). So many good one-liners.

I actually giggle-snorted at "Steven Sondheim's Pinocchio."

You would think a musical episode would be my favorite ever, and I did like the callback to Alabama!, but I really, really hate Helen Keller jokes. I think a lot less of the writing team for going there.

This season just isn't grabbing me like the first season. I watched the first season in 1 weekend. I'm at episode 5 of season 2 in three weeks.

I want more Kimmy and Titus, less Jacqueline!!

Seriously! Jacqueline is the Dorne of Kinmy Schmidt
