The Kettering Incident: Tasmanian Gothic
September 13, 2016 5:17 PM - Season 1 (Full Season) - Subscribe

Dr. Anna Macy returns to her hometown of Kettering, Tasmania, still under the spell of the titular incident that took place 15 years previously. This is a Scandi noir style TV show (like The Killing or Top of the Lake) with a dash of the X-Files.

So I am watching it and unless it suddenly makes an amazing down turn, I'm totally hooked. It's really wonderful. I hope people comment so we can discuss all of it.

I just blasted through the first three episodes because of this post, it's awesome so far. Beautifully shot (and beautiful scenery), very well acted, and a great sense of creeping dread. It definitely will reward repeated viewing since I watched the start of one episode twice and all of a sudden realized I hadn't really heard something that mattered the first time.

Oh man, I am going to have to sit on my hands. I have a lot of thoughts about how this played out and I am interested to see how others find it.

I liked it, but I found the Twin Peaks Tasmania Edition vibe a bit hard to take at times.

Oh, and beautifully shot. Debicki's cheekbone artist alone should get an AFI award.

If they'd flown in Badalamenti and had way more atmospheric moments I would have been totally okay with that.

I finished watching it....anyone else or are we still avoiding spoilers here?

Relatively unspoilery thoughts:
There had better be a season two....
I was not surprised by Who Killed Chloe, but it made very good sense. And they did such a great job of making us suspicious of just about everyone.
I really liked how they didn't make too big a deal of the yellow globs, the whole show treated viewers like beings capable of thought, not much handholding.
They sure waited until the end to let us know at least some of WTF is going on, and I wasn't disappointed.
Really impressed with the acting and photography.
Holy crap the pictures from Antarctica were creepy.
What Happened to Travis! Ehrmagehrd!

Don't tell me I come here for your insightful analysis of WTF happened in this show and there are no Mefites to explain it to me.... :-)

Just binged the whole thing this snowy weekend and it was truly great. Yeah, they really didn't worry if the viewer was following along. My wife and I had endless discussions about, "Wait, who is Travis?" or "Am I supposed to know what those ping-pong balls mean?" or "Who's that woman related to, again?"

*** SPOILERS ***

As far as theories go, I think Jens is running some sort of cloning experiment that involves exposing the original person to massive doses of radiation and produces significant quantities of toxic waste. People who have been "abducted" are being replaced with clones, but they don't realize that they are clones. Some of the early experiments did not produce viable clones, thus the reason Gillian never "returned". The Anna we have been following all along is not, in fact, the original Anna. The clones are not perfect - they are prone to fugue states, they have some personality changes, and they are susceptible to a moss/lichen infestation. The clones may be grown in/with/from (?) a fast growing moss that is starting to escape from the experimental facility under Mother Sullivan's Ridge.

Questions:
- What's up with the dogs?
- What are the ping-pong balls?
- Are the clones starting a revolt at the end? How/why?
