Legends of Tomorrow: The Chicago Way

Well, it was nice not having Rip Hunter while it lasted - I can only hope they figured out a way to write him less sucktastically over the hiatus and first half of this season.

Imaginary Captain Cold did not satisfy my wish for Wentworth Miller's return. And if the rumors are true that he will be back later in the season on team baddie instead of rejoining the Legends, i don't think I'm going to enjoy that.

I'm conflicted. I don't want Rip back, but I also want more of Rory from Doctor Who as a frustrated Hollywood director. Like, I would love a 5 minute segment at the end of every episode about that, and occasionally there's a crossover with the main story with the rest of the crew, but like, done well.

I hope they'll explain the Snart figment of imagination because it's a little random that Mick suddenly has them.

I didn't realize that was the Legion of Doom. I know the show is trying to be it's own universe, but I can't help but think of Lex Luthor and the rest of the usual suspects.

It was all a bit too random. Malcolm's part of the Legion now? Why? How? Yes, the Reverse Flash can time travel, but so what? What's in it for him to recruit Malcolm? He didn't add anything of any value. Did they expect him to convince Sara to give up her current life, thereby destroying the team? If so that was a dumb plan. There is no way he was going to convince her of anything. Oh, and speaking of Malcolm, why wouldn't Sara (or maybe Ray) explain who he was to the rest of the team? I don't think the majority of the Legends would or should have a clue about what type of threat he poses.

And why all of the sudden do we need to emphasize the bromance that is Ray and Nate? They're horrible together, and somehow manage to amplify Nate's horribleness exponentially when they're working as a pair. Keep Mick with Ray, put Nate with--honestly I have no clue, maybe Sara. Perhaps she could ride herd on him enough to wear the awful out of him. Plus there would be little chance for a romance with those two.

I guess with Ray palling around with Nate, Mick could be having doubts about his place on the team, so I'm actually sort-of okay with Snart's return as a hallucination, but I just hope it's not something worse, like Mick getting seriously time-sick or something.

I know they've hinted at Vixen and Mick as a pair, but I don't get her sudden desire to unleash her dark side. Up until this point she's been all about the heroic standard, even as she's been chasing Hourman's killer, but now, out of the blue, she likes the idea of playing bad guy. Why? Just so she can connect with Mick better? Please, no.

Why was there no discussion about Rip's secret arsenal? Yes, they were pressed for time, but there wasn't one person who said, "why didn't you tell us about that before now?"

Somebody tell me I wasn't the only one who, when the centre of the amulet started to turn said, "no, please don't make the the Dial H for Hero amulet!"

On the fashion and aesthetics front, I don't think the hair team is even trying to make the women look like the belong in the era anymore. And apparently the make-up team dipped into the Arrow cosmetic case for Jax's lip colour. I hope that was a one-time application. It doesn't work on Felicity and it doesn't work on Jax (okay, his might have been slightly less purple, but it's still too purple). I did love Malcolm's and Damien's outerwear though. Can we please see more men in fabulous overcoats and hats? Come on, that should be an easy request for a time travel show.

I guess it's too much to expect that if the Spear of Destiny pops up, so will the Phantom Stranger given his (I think they're still canon) most recent origins. Actually, scratch that. It's probably a good thing if they ignore the Stranger. I'm pretty sure they'd butcher the character.

the airlock!

As far as Vixen "playing bad guy" I think boosting one bottle of some smuggler's booze is a pretty small thing. Sort of in the "the criminal won't get too far since I stole his wallet tee-hee" trope.

Surprisingly I really like the chemistry between Mick and Amaya - Idunno if I like them as a couple, but that dynamic is entertaining, and they seem to actually like each other, unlike any other romantic relationship on the show. It might just be that the actor playing Mick really brought it this episode.

Amaya's basically letting her hair down for the first time in a long time, because the JSA was so strict (and also there was a war).

Also the Nate and Ray dynamic seemed like the opposite of a bromance?
