For me there were a lot of laughs and one-liners (Doctors without Molars! Low-flow electricity!) but I guess the underlying plot left me wanting a bit more. Yeah, Mindy and Danny are pretty incompatible and have a lot of work to do. Same as how we left them.

While I love the opportunity to see Mindy dressed to the nines, but I want to see what happens when they can't touch base for two weeks because one or the other of them are always on call and delivering a baby. I said this in the season finale thread, but I want a little less of Mindy as a desperate "LOVE ME!" 30-something year old and a little more of Dr. Lahiri, a great doctor.

Despite all of that I'm tickled to death that the show is back.

I wish Rob McElhenney really had a Richard Lewis neck tattoo.

I thought it was strange that Jeremy's character was so central to one of the plots, but he was barely in the episode until the very end.

Am I totally misremembering the end of the last season, or is the Tracey Wigfield character brand new?

Also, is Rob McElhenney going to be recurring?

The tiara on Peter's head was so lovely. I miss Happy endings, but he's getting good here too.

I liked the opening dance before the titles tying back to the final scene nicely. It was a weaker episode than the best, but it had a nice steady loop.

I'm not complaining but let's just call it what it is: giving the audience Stripper Danny after Chris Messina's Aaliyah dance routine last year is pretty much fan service in its most naked (pun intended) form.

This show is so the little-show-that-could with me. I always forget how much I like it until I watch it and love it and remember it's not just that it is a guilty pleasure that I think it's good, it's that it is actually good.

She was on the penultimate episode last season.

Ah yes. That Aaliyah dance is probably one of my favourite TV moments ever. But Diamond Dan was pretty damn good too, even though we didn't get to see him in the thong.

Also Morgan's tearing up when his cousin admitted he'd ratted on him so they became best friends. I can take or leave every other character on the show past Mindy and Danny, but Morgan - I want my own Morgan! He's so schlubby and physically threatening then soft and warm - the actor is just great with both his physical body language spinning on a dime, and the way he says the weirdest non sequiters that still make sense in the Morgan-world.

One of the things I love most about Morgan is that he totally accepts everyone else's self-image. He and Mindy had a throwaway exchange in this one where she said something about how supermodelesque she is, and he was just like, "Well, duh, yeah," and they just move on.

I just want a gif of Dr. Danny wagging his ass in boxer briefs from the opening minutes.

Yes, please.

I liked how the stripper reveal has been set up the entire series: in the first season's early "night out at the club" episode, the women of the office were marveling at what a good dancer he is. Now we know why!

Chris Messina in the hot pink polo. Werk.

I thought this was a solid return, with a weird hint at what could be a battle between Peter and Jeremy, which I think would be sad if that becomes the peak drama for the show. Mindy and Danny will clearly have episodes of material to sort out between the two of them, and it is The Mindy Project, but there's such a build-up to another (or recurring) confrontation(s) between Peter and Jeremy.

Anyway, I assume Rob McElhenney will come back. After all, he and cuz Morgan have nearly matching tattoos (No More Stealing Cars / No More Murdering People), and tattoos are for life.

I just re-watched the scene of Morgan and Cousin Lou coming to talk to Danny, and it just made me smile. Lou calling Danny "Diamond," picking up one of Danny's remotes and pocketing it while talking to Danny about being open and honest, and then sitting down at the piano and saying "The truth will set you free," playing random notes on the piano, then declaring "I cannot play the piano." He's like Morgan, but the street thug version.
