Acclaimed writer and historian Deborah E. Lipstadt must battle for historical truth to prove the Holocaust actually occurred when David Irving, a renowned denier, sues her for libel.

Lipstadt and Irving on the Blue previously.
The reviews have been lukewarm, but I thought this was terrific - not just (sadly, appallingly) timely but a above-average courtroom drama which dealt with the big subjects of historiography, free speech, legal strategy, and the psychological nature of denail well. The actors are all excellent, and while there are a few touches I'd do without (the view through the door portal and the other flashbacks don't work, I thought) I was grounded at the end of this terrible week by seeing the right side win, and win well.

I missed the showing with Professor Lipstadt giving an intro and have not seen it yet. It's a courtroom drama so the audience will be smaller but I expect it will be seen by many generations of students, hopefully raising their understanding of the specific problem of antisemitism but also the greater problem of fake ideas.

We just watched this. It was quietly terrific. I can't recall a film where the principals functioned so well as an ensemble. No star turns or scene stealing, just good actors doing their best work to support the story.

Timothy Spall was perfect.

Very happy to see Andrew Scott get a tag. We love him.
