In their chase for a global audience, American movie studios spend billions to make their films look amazing. But almost none of those dollars stay in America. What would it take to bring those jobs back -- and would it be worth it?

They are essentially the media equivalent of factory workers, just how badly do you want to have a $4/hour 12 hour shift sewing teeshirts? (oh wait, make that rotoscoping).

All the tools are essentially free and not all that hard to learn, so why are we not seeing incredible Indie effects films? The process is still incredibly time consuming. For a big budget project there are huge bidding wars that's will save millions, but it's still thousands of hours in person time.
