The Strain: The Worm Turns
July 18, 2017 6:39 PM - Season 4, Episode 1 - Subscribe

The Strain is back, and I have posted in case anyone is still watching.

So, this is The Strain's final season, and we've kicked it off with a doozy:

* There's a 9 month time jump, wherein the strigoi are now in charge of... if not everything, significant population centers across the United States, complete with a creepy ad campaign.

* Eph is back to being terrible, although the scene where he diagnoses scurvy is pretty good.

* Zack is back to being the Absolute Worst, so bad that even Eichhorst, a vampire Nazi, finds him impossible to tolerate.

* Fet, Quinlan and Charlotte are off searching for their own nuke, since only a fool brings a silver sword to a nuke fight.

AV Club is following the show in a limited fashion here.

Anybody still with me, here?

It's no Under the Dome, so it's still watchable. Just. Was Zack's prize the girl or the game? Either way, he's a very stupid kid. I'm guessing they're setting him up for an 11th hour redemption. There's no coming back from bombing your city. Stupid show. But I'm still watching, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I liked the Partnership ad: the bizaare exposition, the spokeswoman, the Strigoi doorman, the shining trains and clean people, the cheery dialogue. Very WTF.

Part of me wants this season to go full Tim Burton's Batman level of surreal, but part of me just wants to see Zack t̶h̶e̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶l̶d̶ burn.

also loling forever at this grade_eph tag, well done, Mordax!

Also, I do like the stinger they've got this season. It's appropriately ghoulish.

Zack's haircut is part of this specific starter pack. I'm going with that is his character development arc until actual Armageddon/this show ends.

I didn't think that Zach could actually get worse, but there he goes

Still here.

The Partnership ad was the creepiest part: "keep your blood donations up to date" and "being B-positive ... the sacrifice is more than worth it".

Apparently nuclear winter mostly means "throw an orange filter on".

Charlotte's going to die, right? What with all Fet's "what would I do without you?" foreshadowing. And I think they're setting Eichorst up for a Vader-killing-the-Emperor resolution.

I think the girl, myself. (I just assume the worst, here.)

*tips hat*
Thanks! Good to see you back for this. :)

Oh my goodness, you appear to have called it, haha.

Apparently nuclear winter mostly means "throw an orange filter on".

I'm also confused about the scope of nuclear winter. It was just one blast - how big of an area was it supposed to orange-filter?

The Partnership ad was the creepiest part

Agreed, mostly because that - more than anything else - made it feel like the Master actually had his shit together. Conquering a city is one thing, but creating a PR campaign for it is pretty... well, like you said, creepy.

Charlotte's going to die, right?

Right now, I'm assuming so. (I bet it depends a bit on if Dutch is still with us.)

And I think they're setting Eichorst up for a Vader-killing-the-Emperor resolution.

Maybe. I'm wondering if that's physically possible for someone in his 'bloodline.' Wormline? I'm not sure Eichhorst can physically attack him. But I get the feeling that if he is able to, he'd love to at this point. I mean, being trapped having to be nice to Zack does seem a fate worse than death.

From the AVClub bit:

Something’s not right about those Freedom Bars, right?

Right. Yes. I thought there was an ominous undertone there too. Are they Soylent Green-ing the B-pos sacrifices after exsanguinating them?
